On 23 February, 2010 at about 7:20am, a driver was taking his employer and her son to school from Kiambu to Runda. About 400-500meters from Glory Road barrier, after a sharp bend, a man walked into the road and waved for them to slow down. The driver thought that the man was warning them of an obstacle in the road ahead and slowed to a stop. As he did, the man pulled out a hand gun and demanded to get into the driver's seat. Her driver then transferred to the passenger seat. His accomplice got into the back seat with the woman and son. (The Honda CRV had dark tinted windows in the back, so the thugs could not see that there were passengers inside the car until it was stopped, therefore, she wasn't personally targeted).
The woman describes the two men as being in their 20's, very nervous, inexperienced and covered in mud. She stayed calmed and complied with all their requests. They kept demanding that she give them dollars which she didn't have. However, they were satisfied with taking her wedding ring, other jewelry, a significant amount of cash, mobile phones, etc. They drove around the Rosslyn/Runda back roads about 25-30 minutes, until the fuel light came on. She requested that they stop before running out of fuel which they agreed to do. She then suggested that she, her driver, and son would stay put for 10 minutes whilst the thugs ran away. They agreed and the ordeal ended.
